How a first lesson works
Bring the exercise book, a recent marked paper and the homework that is causing trouble. The tutor finds the exact step where the reasoning breaks down — not a general weakness, a specific one — and works from there.
Tell us what you needMonaco is unusual. Within a few hundred metres you will find the French national curriculum at Lycée Albert-Ier and Collège Charles III, a Catholic private school following the same programme at FANB, an English-language school running IGCSE and the IB at the International School of Monaco, and international sections inside the state schools. Families move between these systems, and children are often assessed in a language that is not the one spoken at home.
A tutor who only knows one of those systems is of limited use. Our tutors between them cover the French curriculum from collège to terminale, British curricula from KS3 to GCSE and A-Level, and the IB Diploma — and they teach in both English and French.
Not “maths”, but “cannot rearrange an equation without losing a sign”. That level of precision is what makes a lesson useful.
The tutor watches the attempt before correcting. What the student does wrong is the information; the correct answer is not.
After the explanation, a second, slightly different exercise. If the student can do that one alone, the understanding is real.
You are told what was covered, what held, and what to watch for in the next assessment.
Yes. Several of our tutors teach maths, science and English fully in English, including the notation and vocabulary used by international syllabuses. Others teach in French. We match the tutor to the language your child is assessed in.
Yes. One of our tutors spent five years supporting two ISM pupils in English, French and mathematics, and knows the school’s pace and homework load. We are not affiliated with the school; we simply work with its programme.
Usually with French as a second language alongside school, so that classroom instruction becomes accessible, rather than with subject tutoring that the language barrier would block anyway. We can explain the trade-off in a first conversation.
For mathematics and physics, yes — one of our tutors came through French preparatory classes and holds an MSc from Imperial College London. Tell us the module and we will confirm whether we can cover it.
Rates depend on the subject, the level and the format, and are agreed with the family before the first lesson. We will give you a clear figure during the first conversation.
